Florence and the Tiny Flat Iron Machine
I met a client today by the name of Florence. She was an older woman, who was putting in 40 hours of work every week as a caregiver at a senior citizen's home. Florence treated herself today to a shampoo, style, and flat iron service. When she first removed her baseball cap, I honestly had no clue as to what the outcome of her new look would be. Her hair was very fine, extremely porous (the ability to soak up moisture), over processed, and short. It was also heavily weighed down by oil she had put on it to try and control it. "Just make me pretty," she said to me, as I untangled her hair just before I took her to the shampoo bowl. I ended up shampooing her twice with a protein infused shampoo by Design Essentials called, Organic Cleanse, followed by a nourishing conditioner. After I towel dried her hair, I worked in a smoothing cream by L'Oreal, to help straighten some of the curl while I was blow drying. Once I was done, I called Ms. L over to my station for advice on how to begin flat ironing (her hair was tapered short). Ms. L is a hair goddess. She magically popped out the tiniest of flat irons out of her apron! After two trial runs, she handed me her little "pride and joy" and off I went. It took me one hour to complete, but Florence looked marvelous after I was through. She couldn't stop smiling as she walked to the front desk to pay. She's doing a double shift today. I hope she comes in more often. We both concluded, "Life is short and we only live it once, why not feel good through it all?"
