Today was my first day of being on the
salon floor. I admit that I was swimming in a sea of nerves when I put my
apron on and set up my station at the manicure station, but in the back
of my mind, I knew all I had to do was breathe. Photographed below is Mickey. She's an esthetics student at Pivot and today she and her classmates celebrated the completion of their Phase 1. Her entire class got pampered by our class and I had the lovely pleasure of sculpting her hair. Mickey was looking for a clean up on her fringe along with an increase layered trim. After I shampooed and conditioned her, my nerves had calmed. The initial shock of working on a live model rather than on a mannequin is something that comes with the craft. Live models talk back! They make funny commentary! They tell you about their husbands! While I was sculpting her hair, I caught myself in the whirl of it all. There we were, looking at each other through the mirror, laughing, exchanging small details about ourselves, and best of all, feeling splendid.
