Spaces and Beauty

On Sunday night, my son, Anatoly and I took an evening trip to Jewel for some groceries. It was around the time of 8p.m. when we found ourselves dragging our little feet through the automatic entrance doors. When it comes to shopping carts, Toly prefers to sit in the "big space," as opposed to the smaller space that carts are designed to house children in. There I was, handing him cheese sticks, half a dozen eggs, blueberries, broccoli, Boca patties, raspberry kefir, and a bell pepper for neighbors. When we got to check out, Toly proudly stood up and began to transfer all our goodies onto the counter. He refused any help and I took this opportunity to snag the Vogue in front of me, which was featuring Marion Cotillard on its cover. I quickly paged through, searching for the Cotillard spread, when my eyes suddenly fixed on one of the most beautiful Louis Vuitton ads I've ever seen. The ad showcases exquisite models, aboard a passenger train, covered in beautifully cut suits, stunning brocades, carrying their LV luggage. Aside from the glamour, the gaze that these models hold, combined with the sepia-esque colors chosen for this campaign, is what truly evokes the beauty for me. It's highly romantic in feeling in that the models are not distracted at all. They are transfixed in the art of travel. They are completely and devotedly in the moment. For someone who is soooo used to seeing passengers aboard a train paralyzed by their iPhone or their kindles every morning, I truly appreciated this Louis Vuitton ad because I felt hopeful for the value of certain spaces, such as the ones we travel in. And that's when wide eyed Toly broke through my daydream with, "I did it, mommy!" Exactly :)
