On Valentine's day of this year, I began my first day of the cosmetology program at Pivot Point Academy in Evanston. It seems like just yesterday that I was unpacking boxes of beauty supplies all wrapped in layers of plastic and guarded by bubble wrap. My mannequin heads, hair caps, blow dryer, and shears were among the tools that over the past eight weeks, I've grown to know very well. Now, they are appendages of mine.
My educator, Mrs. Laura Lee is an amazing woman. In eight weeks, she has managed to educate my peers and I on Salon Success, Trichology, Sculpture, Nail care, Electricity, Hair Design, Texture, and is currently introducing us to Chemistry. One of her most common used phrases is, "Nooo bueno," which she commonly uses to describe something that we should definitely not do. Our student teacher assistant is Nita, or "Neeters". She is also a prime example of an amazing human being. Her positive aura is very reassuring. She wants us to succeed. Nita is always writing inspirational quotes on the easel in the morning, right before class begins.
For the sake of taking the time to stop and smell the flowers, I am recording my entire year at Pivot Point in blog format. I want to share my experiences with other cosmetology students as well as people who are passionate about hair, fashion, make-up, and beauty-inside and out. In the eight weeks that I've been in beauty school, I've observed very keenly that beauty schooled students are very intelligent, creative, humble, hardworking, unique and lovely, beautiful people. I wish to inspire you to be the same. My name is Ruby and I am a future beauty school graduate.
